Ace Flagg Discusses Maine Men's Basketball Commitment
5-star forward gives insight into his recruitment, why he considered Orono, and what it will take for the Black Bears to take the next step.
Flagg touched on a number of topics, including his recruitment, why he chose Maine, and what he sees for the future of the program.
Flagg, a 5-star forward from Maine Basketball Academy, committed to Maine in September over offers from Boston College, Providence, and VCU. He is considered one of the top players in the country in the 2023 class.
In an interview with the BDN, Flagg said he chose Maine because of the coaching staff, the opportunity to play right away, and the chance to help the Black Bears take the next step.
"I think this program is on the rise," Flagg said. "I think we have a chance to be really good. I want to be a part of that."
Flagg is a skilled forward who can score inside and out. He is also a good rebounder and defender.
"He's a special player," Maine coach Chris Markwood said. "He's got a lot of talent and he's a great kid. We're excited to have him."
Flagg is expected to make an immediate impact for the Black Bears. He is expected to start at power forward and be one of the team's leading scorers.
"I'm ready to get to work," Flagg said. "I want to help this team win games."
The Black Bears are coming off a 13-15 season. They have not made the NCAA Tournament since 2016.
Flagg believes he can help the Black Bears reach the NCAA Tournament. He said he is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team succeed.
"I'm going to work hard every day," Flagg said. "I'm going to do whatever it takes to help this team win."
