Anfernee Simons Injury: Out for Remainder of Game
Portland Trail Blazers Guard Suffers Right Ankle Sprain
Simons to Undergo MRI; Status for Future Games Uncertain
Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons has been ruled out for the remainder of Tuesday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers with a right ankle sprain. Simons suffered the injury in the third quarter after stepping on the foot of 76ers guard Matisse Thybulle while driving to the basket.
Simons immediately grabbed at his ankle and limped off the court. He was helped to the locker room and did not return. The Trail Blazers announced the diagnosis and Simons' status for future games is uncertain.
Simons is averaging 21.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game this season. He has started all 56 games for the Trail Blazers, who are currently 29-27 and in sixth place in the Western Conference.
The Trail Blazers will be without Simons for the remainder of the game against the 76ers. It is unclear how long Simons will be out, but the Trail Blazers will need him back soon if they want to make a run at the playoffs.
Simons' Injury History
Simons has a history of ankle injuries. He missed two games in December 2021 with a left ankle sprain. He also missed two games in March 2022 with a right ankle sprain.
Simons' latest injury is a setback for the Trail Blazers, who are already without Damian Lillard (calf) and Jusuf Nurkic (foot). The Trail Blazers will need Simons to be healthy if they want to make a run at the playoffs.
What's Next for Simons?
Simons will undergo an MRI on Wednesday to determine the severity of his ankle sprain. The results of the MRI will determine how long Simons is out.
If Simons' ankle sprain is minor, he could miss a few games. If the sprain is more severe, Simons could miss several weeks or even months.
The Trail Blazers will be monitoring Simons' progress closely and will provide updates on his status as they become available.
