Angels sign catcher Travis d'Arnaud to two-year, $12 million contract

The Los Angeles Angels have signed catcher Travis d'Arnaud to a two-year, $12 million contract, the team announced Tuesday.

D'Arnaud, 33, is a two-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner who has spent the last four seasons with the Atlanta Braves. He hit .262 with 18 home runs and 60 RBIs in 113 games for the Braves last season.

The Angels are hoping that d'Arnaud can help them improve their offense, which ranked 29th in the majors in runs scored last season. D'Arnaud is a good hitter with power and he also provides good defense behind the plate.

The Angels also announced that they have designated catcher Max Stassi for assignment. Stassi, 31, hit .229 with 11 home runs and 46 RBIs in 108 games for the Angels last season.

The Angels are now set at catcher with d'Arnaud and Kurt Suzuki, who they signed to a one-year contract in December.

D'Arnaud is a veteran catcher who has played in the major leagues for 10 seasons. He has a career batting average of .264 with 102 home runs and 462 RBIs.

The Angels are hoping that d'Arnaud can help them improve their offense and defense in 2023.
