Arsenal thrash Juventus with 4-0 win in Women's Champions League

Maanum's brace leads Gunners to victory

Arsenal produced a dominant display to thrash Juventus 4-0 in their Women's Champions League group stage opener on Thursday.

Frida Maanum was the star of the show for the Gunners, scoring twice in the first half to put her side in control.

Caitlin Foord added a third after the break, before Lina Hurtig completed the scoring late on.

The victory gives Arsenal a perfect start to their Champions League campaign and moves them top of Group C.

Maanum's performance

Maanum was in inspired form for Arsenal, scoring two stunning goals to set her side on their way to victory.

Her first goal came in the 16th minute, when she curled a brilliant effort into the top corner from the edge of the area.

She then doubled her tally in the 42nd minute, with a powerful strike from inside the box.

Arsenal's dominance

Arsenal were in complete control of the match from start to finish.

They dominated possession and created a number of chances, with Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead both going close to scoring.

Juventus rarely threatened the Arsenal goal, and the Gunners were able to see out the match comfortably.

Reaction

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall was delighted with his team's performance.

"I'm very happy with the way we played tonight," he said.

"We were dominant from start to finish and we created a lot of chances.

"Frida Maanum was excellent tonight and she scored two wonderful goals.

"It's a great start to our Champions League campaign and we're now looking forward to our next match."

Juventus manager Joe Montemurro was disappointed with his team's performance.

"We were not at our best tonight," he said.

"We didn't create enough chances and we made too many mistakes.

"Arsenal were the better team and they deserved to win.

"We need to learn from our mistakes and come back stronger next time."
