CNN to Lay Off Jake Tapper, Wolf Blitzer
CNN Batters by Layoffs
CNN's parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, is laying off about 1,000 employees as its restructures to save money.
The company is cutting back on some of its linear television channels and will offer more content on its streaming service, HBO Max.
CNN's chief executive officer, Chris Licht, told employees in a memo that the layoffs are necessary to "ensure a sustainable future" for the company.
Tapper, Blitzer Among Those Let Go
Jake Tapper and Wolf Blitzer are two of the most well-known anchors at CNN.
Tapper hosts the weekday show "The Lead with Jake Tapper" and Blitzer hosts the weekend show "The Situation Room."
Other CNN employees who are being laid off include: Brian Stelter, host of "Reliable Sources"; John Harwood, White House correspondent; and Alisyn Camerota, co-host of "CNN Newsroom."
Layoffs Part of Wider Cost-Cutting Measures
The layoffs at CNN are part of a wider cost-cutting effort at Warner Bros. Discovery.
The company has also announced plans to sell or shut down several of its linear television channels, including CNN+
Warner Bros. Discovery is trying to save money as it faces increasing competition from streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+.
