Crews Battling Blaze Following Explosion on West Franklin Street in Evansville
Emergency services rush to scene after a reported explosion
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Firefighters are currently battling a blaze in Evansville after an explosion was reported on West Franklin Street Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Evansville Fire Department, crews responded to a 911 call shortly after 4:30 p.m. Upon arrival at a two-story commercial building, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure.

Firefighters immediately initiated efforts to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading. A large plume of smoke could be seen billowing into the sky, prompting evacuations in the immediate vicinity.
No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the explosion is still under investigation. Additional units have been dispatched to assist in containing the blaze.
West Franklin Street is currently closed between North Main Street and Governor Street as crews work to extinguish the fire. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and avoid the area.
