Crews respond to fire after explosion on West Franklin Street in Evansville
Smoke, flames could be seen for miles
Firefighters battled a blaze that broke out shortly after 8:00 a.m. Thursday at West Franklin and Vann Avenue in Evansville, Indiana. The fire, which started in one structure, quickly spread to adjacent buildings.
People told not to go outside
A dispatcher told 14 News that the fire was reported at 8:08 a.m. Black smoke could be seen from miles away. The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office told people on Vann Avenue to shelter in place. Firefighters worked to put out the fire, and asked the public to avoid the area.
Cause under investigation
The cause of the fire is still unclear. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
