Damian Lillard Injury Update: Bucks Star in Concussion Protocol, Out for NBA Cup Opener vs. Raptors
Lillard Enters Concussion Protocol After Hard Fall
Damian Lillard has entered the NBA's concussion protocol after suffering a hard fall during the Milwaukee Bucks' 119-111 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night. Lillard was injured with just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter when he collided with 76ers center Joel Embiid while driving to the basket. Lillard immediately grabbed his head and was helped to the locker room.
The Bucks announced after the game that Lillard had entered the concussion protocol and would be out indefinitely. Lillard is the Bucks' leading scorer and assist man this season, averaging 29.7 points and 7.8 assists per game.
Bucks to Start Season Without Lillard
Lillard's injury is a major blow to the Bucks, who are already without two other key players, Khris Middleton and Pat Connaughton. Middleton is out with a sprained MCL, while Connaughton is out with a calf strain.
The Bucks will open the NBA season on Tuesday night against the Toronto Raptors in Abu Dhabi. It is unclear if Lillard will be able to return for that game.
Bucks Still Confident Despite Injuries
Despite the injuries to Lillard, Middleton, and Connaughton, the Bucks are still confident in their chances this season. The Bucks have a deep roster, and they are led by two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
"We have a lot of guys who can step up," Antetokounmpo said after the game against the 76ers. "We're going to miss Dame, but we're not going to make excuses. We're going to go out there and compete every night."
