Explosion, Fire Inside West Side Building Injures Construction Worker
Firefighters extinguish blaze, rescue unconscious worker from third floor
One person injured, no other injuries reported
Firefighters responded to a report of an explosion and fire inside a three-story building on the city's West Side at approximately 10am this morning. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions on the third floor of the building.
Firefighters quickly entered the building and located an unconscious construction worker on the third floor. The worker was rescued and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the explosion and fire is under investigation. However, officials believe the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak. The building has been evacuated and is currently closed.
The fire was extinguished by firefighters within an hour. Damage to the building is estimated to be in the millions of dollars.
