Former NBA player Kyle Singler has raised awareness with an Instagram video detailing his struggles with mental health.
The 33-year-old, who played for the Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder among other teams, shared a heartfelt message with his followers on Wednesday, speaking openly about his experiences with depression and anxiety.
Singler began the video by saying that he had been "struggling with mental health for a long time" and that he had finally decided to speak out about it in an effort to help others.
He said that he had been feeling "lost" and "alone" and that he had even contemplated suicide.
"I've been in a dark place for a long time," Singler said.
"I've been struggling with depression and anxiety. I've been feeling lost and alone. I've even contemplated suicide.
I'm not ashamed to talk about it. I'm not weak for talking about it. I'm actually stronger for talking about it.
I'm here to tell you that you're not alone. If you're struggling with mental health, please know that you're not alone. There are people who care about you. There are people who want to help you.
