Hawks Comeback Falls Short, Lose to Pistons 122-121
Atlanta Hawks' late rally not enough to overcome Detroit Pistons' strong performance
Pistons hold on to win despite Trae Young's 35-point effort
The Atlanta Hawks' valiant comeback attempt fell short on Wednesday night as they suffered a narrow 122-121 defeat to the Detroit Pistons. Despite trailing by as many as 19 points in the second half, the Hawks fought back to within one point with just seconds remaining.
Trae Young led the Hawks with 35 points and 10 assists, while Dejounte Murray added 24 points and 10 rebounds. However, it was not enough to overcome a strong performance from the Pistons, who were led by Jaden Ivey's 28 points.
The Pistons controlled the game for much of the night, shooting 50% from the field and 40% from three-point range. They also outrebounded the Hawks 50-37 and forced 17 turnovers.
The Hawks' comeback began in the third quarter, when they outscored the Pistons 32-21. They continued to chip away at the deficit in the fourth quarter, and Young's three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining brought them within one point.
However, the Pistons were able to hold on for the win, as Ivey made a free throw with just seconds remaining to seal the victory. The loss drops the Hawks to 21-22 on the season, while the Pistons improve to 14-29.
