Kansas Jayhawks beat Sam Houston State 66-51
Kansas women’s basketball got off to a fast start in their season opener on Monday night, cruising to a 66-51 victory over Sam Houston State at Allen Fieldhouse.
The Jayhawks hit ten 3-pointers in the game, including four from junior guard Aniya Thomas. Thomas finished with a team-high 16 points, while senior guard Holly Kersgieter added 15 points and seven rebounds.
Kansas led by just four points at halftime, but the Jayhawks pulled away in the second half, shooting 56.3% from the field in the second half and holding Sam Houston State to just 31.3% shooting.
The Jayhawks also forced 21 turnovers, which led to 19 points. Kansas had just nine turnovers in the game.
Sophomore forward Taiyanna Jackson added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Jayhawks, while freshman guard Wyvette Mayberry chipped in 11 points.
Sam Houston State was led by junior guard Courtney Cleveland, who scored 14 points. Senior forward Kaylee Jefferson added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Jayhawks will be back in action on Thursday, November 10th, when they host the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks at Allen Fieldhouse.
