Walsh stars in Barca's record-breaking UWCL win
Keira Walsh produced a stellar performance as Barcelona Femeni thrashed Benfica 9-0 in the UEFA Women's Champions League on Thursday, with the English midfielder scoring one and assisting another in a remarkable 13-minute goal blitz from the Spanish giants.
Barca's blistering start
Barcelona wasted no time in asserting their dominance, taking the lead through Aitana Bonmatà in the second minute. Walsh then doubled the advantage just three minutes later, firing home from close range after a pinpoint cross from Fridolina Rolfö.
The floodgates opened from there, with Barcelona scoring three more goals in the next eight minutes through Rolfö, Geyse Ferreira, and Mariona Caldentey. The onslaught continued as Walsh turned provider, setting up Claudia Pina for Barcelona's sixth in the 15th minute.
Walsh's impressive display
Walsh was at the heart of Barcelona's dominance, dictating the tempo of the game from midfield and showcasing her superb passing range. Her goal was a testament to her attacking instincts, while her assist for Pina highlighted her creative vision.
The English international's performance was particularly impressive given that she was making her first start for Barcelona since returning from injury. Her return to fitness is a major boost for the Spanish champions, who are aiming to retain their UWCL crown this season.
Barca's relentless dominance
Barcelona continued to pour forward after the break, with Bonmatà completing her hat-trick in the 52nd minute. Pina added her second of the game 10 minutes later, before Rolfö rounded off the scoring with her second in the 70th minute.
The 9-0 victory is Barcelona's biggest ever win in the UWCL and sends a strong message to their rivals in Europe. The Spanish giants are now top of Group D with six points from two games, and they will be confident of reaching the quarter-finals.
