Luka Dončić finished with 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists in the Mavs' 112-101 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. It was Dončić's third straight game with at least 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists.
The Mavs improved to 2-1 on the season with the win, while the Pelicans fell to 1-2. Dončić was one of six Mavs players in double figures, as Spencer Dinwiddie added 18 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. had 17, Christian Wood scored 16, Maxi Kleber contributed 15, and Jalen Brunson chipped in 10.
The Pelicans were led by Zion Williamson, who had 23 points and 8 rebounds. CJ McCollum added 22 points, and Brandon Ingram scored 18.
The Mavs led by just 5 points at the half, but they pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Pelicans 32-20. Dončić was a major factor in the third quarter, scoring 10 points and dishing out 4 assists.
The Pelicans made a run in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 5 points with just over 2 minutes remaining. But the Mavs held on for the victory, thanks in part to some clutch free throw shooting by Dončić.
