Ex-vicar 'abducted' teenage abuse victim for sex
A former Church of England vicar is to face a police investigation after a tribunal ruled he engaged in “sexually inappropriate behavior” with a teenage girl.
The Church of England’s independent safeguarding body concluded that the Reverend Colin Pritchard abused his position of trust by engaging in a sexual relationship with the girl.
The girl was 'vulnerable' and 'emotionally dependent' on Pritchard
The tribunal found that the girl was “vulnerable” and “emotionally dependent” on Pritchard at the time of the abuse, which took place between 2013 and 2015.
The tribunal’s report said that Pritchard had “abducted” the girl on one occasion and taken her to a hotel for sex.
Pritchard has denied any wrongdoing
Pritchard, who was the vicar of St Mary’s Church in Studley, Warwickshire, has denied any wrongdoing.
He said that he had “never had any sexual contact” with the girl and that the allegations against him were “completely untrue”
Police to review tribunal ruling
Warwickshire Police said that they would be reviewing the tribunal’s ruling and would “take appropriate action” if necessary.
A spokesperson for the force said: “We are aware of the tribunal’s ruling and we will be reviewing the findings to determine whether any further action is required.”
