SD Dems: ‘Noem lacks qualifications’ for Homeland Security
South Dakota Democrats say Governor Kristi Noem lacks the qualifications to serve as Homeland Security secretary
South Dakota Democrats are criticizing Governor Kristi Noem's potential nomination for Homeland Security secretary, saying she lacks the experience and qualifications for the role.
The criticism comes after reports that Noem is on President Donald Trump's short list for the position.
In a statement, the South Dakota Democratic Party said Noem "lacks the experience and qualifications necessary to lead the Department of Homeland Security."
Noem has no experience in national security or law enforcement
The party pointed out that Noem has no experience in national security or law enforcement, and that she has made "dangerous and reckless" statements about immigrants and Muslims.
“Noem has no experience in national security or law enforcement, and her dangerous and reckless statements about immigrants and Muslims make her unfit to lead the Department of Homeland Security,” the party said.
Noem's supporters say she is a strong leader with a proven track record
Noem's supporters have defended her qualifications, saying she is a strong leader with a proven track record of success.
"Governor Noem is a strong leader with a proven track record of success," said Republican Party of South Dakota Chairman Dan Lederman.
"She has led South Dakota through some of its toughest challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent flooding," Lederman said.
Noem has been a vocal supporter of Trump
Noem has been a vocal supporter of Trump, and she has often echoed his rhetoric on immigration and other issues.
In a recent interview, Noem said she believes Trump is "the greatest president of my lifetime."
"I think he's done an amazing job, and I'm proud to support him," Noem said.
