Severe Delays Expected as Section of A12 Closed Following Crash
Emergency services were called to the scene of a 'serious' collision on the A12 near Colchester this morning (September 14).
The road is closed in both directions between junction 25 (Marks Tey) and junction 26 (Stanway) following the incident, which happened at around 7.30am.
National Highways has warned of "severe delays" as a result of the closure and has advised motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
Essex Police have confirmed that the incident involved two vehicles and that one person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving two vehicles on the A12 southbound at around 7.30am today, September 14.
"One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. The road is closed in both directions between junction 25 (Marks Tey) and junction 26 (Stanway) while emergency services work at the scene.
"We are asking motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes."
Diversions are in place, but motorists are advised to expect delays.
National Highways has advised motorists to follow the following diversions:
- Northbound traffic - Exit the A12 at junction 25 (Marks Tey) and take the A120 towards Colchester.
- Southbound traffic - Exit the A12 at junction 26 (Stanway) and take the A134 towards Colchester.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to check the latest traffic updates before setting off.
