SJU's Three-Point Barrage Defeats Syracuse, 84-70
Dominant Performance from Three
St. John's University (SJU) showcased an impressive shooting display on Tuesday night, sinking 15 three-pointers to overpower Syracuse University 84-70 at Madison Square Garden.
The Red Storm, led by junior guard Posh Alexander, exploded from beyond the arc, shooting 45.5% from three-point range. Alexander drained five three-pointers, while Montez Mathis and David Jones added three each.
Balanced Scoring Effort
SJU's victory was fueled by a balanced scoring attack, with five players reaching double figures.
Sophomore guard Rafael Pinzon contributed 15 points, including three three-pointers, while Mathis and Jones tallied 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Syracuse Struggles
Syracuse, on the other hand, struggled to keep pace with SJU's offensive onslaught.
Led by senior guard Judah Mintz, the Orange shot just 32.1% from the field and 22.6% from three-point range. Mintz finished with a team-high 17 points, but his efforts were not enough to overcome SJU's three-point barrage.
Solid Defense
In addition to their impressive shooting performance, SJU also displayed strong defense, holding Syracuse to 40% shooting from the field.
Senior forward Aaron Wheeler led the Red Storm with three blocks, while Alexander added two steals.
Looking Ahead
With the win, SJU improves to 14-7 overall and 5-5 in Big East play.
The Red Storm will return to action on Saturday when they host DePaul University at Carnesecca Arena.
Syracuse falls to 13-8 overall and 6-5 in the ACC.
The Orange will look to bounce back on Friday when they host Boston College at the JMA Wireless Dome.
