Something or Nothing: Knicks’ Struggle Defensively to Start the Season
Slow Start for the Knicks
The New York Knicks have had a disappointing start to the 2022-23 NBA season, sitting at 3-6 through their first nine games. While their offense has been solid, ranking 12th in the league in efficiency, their defense has been among the worst, allowing the third-most points per game.
The Knicks have struggled to contain opponents from the outside. They’re allowing teams to shoot 36.5% from 3-point range, which is the fourth-worst mark in the NBA.
The Knicks’ struggles on the defensive end have been a major disappointment, as they were expected to be a much-improved team this season. They added several key players in the offseason, including Jalen Brunson and Isaiah Hartenstein, who were expected to help them take a step forward.
Fixing the Defense
The Knicks need to figure out how to fix their defense quickly if they want to turn their season around. They have the offensive talent to be a good team, but they won’t be able to win consistently if they can’t stop their opponents from scoring.
There are a few things the Knicks can do to improve their defense. They need to communicate better on defense and rotate more quickly to help each other out. They also need to be more physical and make it tougher for opponents to get into the paint.
If the Knicks can’t figure out how to improve their defense, they’re going to have a long season ahead of them.
