SJSU volleyball upsets No. 13 Stanford in five sets
The San Jose State volleyball team upset No. 13 Stanford in five sets on Wednesday night at the Spartan Gym. The Spartans won 25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 26-24, 15-11.
It was the first time that SJSU has defeated Stanford since 2004.
The Spartans were led by senior outside hitter Haylee Nelson, who had 21 kills and 14 digs. Senior middle blocker Breanna Sutton added 14 kills and 10 blocks, and junior setter Kamalu Makekau-Whittaker had 52 assists.
Stanford was led by junior outside hitter Kathryn Plummer, who had 20 kills and 10 digs. Senior libero Morgan Hentz added 20 digs.
The match was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than five points at any point.
In the fifth set, SJSU took an early lead and never looked back, winning 15-11.
