Spirit Airlines Plane Shot at in Haiti and Forced to Divert

Passengers and crew shaken after near-miss

Plane diverted to Fort Lauderdale after being struck by gunfire

A Spirit Airlines flight from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was forced to divert to the Dominican Republic after being shot at shortly after takeoff on Tuesday evening.

The Airbus A320, carrying 148 passengers and six crew members, was struck by gunfire as it climbed out of Toussaint Louverture International Airport.

The plane was able to land safely at Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo, where passengers were evacuated and taken to a hotel.

No one was injured in the incident, but passengers and crew were shaken by the experience.

"We heard a loud bang and then the plane started to shake," said one passenger, who asked not to be identified.

"We didn't know what was happening at first, but then we saw the bullet holes in the fuselage."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.

The Haitian government has condemned the attack, and the Haitian National Police have launched an investigation.

Spirit Airlines has issued a statement saying that it is cooperating with the investigation and that the safety of its passengers and crew is its top priority.

The incident comes as Haiti continues to struggle with political instability and violence.

In recent months, there have been numerous reports of gunfire and other violence in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

The U.S. State Department has issued a travel advisory for Haiti, warning travelers to exercise caution due to the high crime rate.
