Syracuse started the game on a 9-2 run, but Colgate quickly responded and took a 16-15 lead with 12:30 left in the half. The Orange then went on a 10-0 run to take a 25-16 lead with 8:30 left in the half. Colgate cut the lead to 27-24 with 4:30 left in the half, but Syracuse scored the next four points to take a 31-24 lead with 2:30 left in the half. Colgate scored the final five points of the half to cut the lead to 31-29 at halftime.

Jesse Edwards leads Syracuse with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Joe Girard III has nine points and five assists.

Tucker Richardson leads Colgate with 10 points, while Nelly Cummings has nine points and three assists. The Orange shot 42.3% from the field in the first half, while Colgate shot 39.1% from the field. Syracuse was 6-of-17 from three-point range, while Colgate was 5-of-16 from three-point range. The Orange had a 23-19 rebounding advantage in the first half.
