Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Nafi Thiam wins heptathlon title at World Athletics Championships
Belgian athlete makes history by defending heptathlon title in Oregon
Nafi Thiam of Belgium has defended her heptathlon title at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, becoming only the second woman to win the event at both the Olympics and the World Championships. Thiam finished with a total of 6,947 points, more than 200 points ahead of the silver medalist, Anouk Vetter of the Netherlands.
Thiam's victory was her second heptathlon title at the World Athletics Championships, also claiming victory in London 2017. She also won gold in the event at the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Thiam's victory in Oregon was a dominant performance. She led the competition from the start, winning the first event, the 100-meter hurdles, and never relinquishing her lead. She also won the high jump, long jump, and 800-meter run. Her only subpar performance was in the shot put, in which she placed fifth.
Thiam's victory is a testament to her remarkable talent and versatility. The heptathlon is one of the most demanding events in track and field, requiring athletes to compete in seven different events over two days. Thiam is one of the few athletes in the world who can compete at such a high level in so many different disciplines.
Thiam's victory is also a major boost for Belgium's hopes of success at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. She will be one of the favorites to win the heptathlon gold medal in Paris, and her victory in Oregon will give her a major confidence boost.
