Arsenal boss Slegers expecting the ‘unorthodox’ from Juventus in UWCL
Arsenal boss Renee Slegers expects Juventus to play a very different style from Lyon when the two sides meet in the UEFA Women’s Champions League on Thursday.
Slegers’ side beat Lyon 5-1 in the quarter-finals to book their place in the last four, but the Dutch coach is wary of the threat posed by Juventus.
“Juventus are a very different team to Lyon,” she said. “They are very compact and organized, and they can break down teams with simple football. They are not as good as Lyon, but they have a humility that is very difficult to play against.”
Slegers added that she expects Juventus to be more willing to take risks than Lyon were. “Lyon are very good at keeping possession and they can hurt you with their quality,” she said. “Juventus are not as good at keeping possession, but they are much more dangerous on the counter-attack. They will look to hit us with pace and power, so we will need to be very careful.”
Arsenal will be looking to reach the final of the Women’s Champions League for the first time since 2019. They face a tough semi-final against Juventus, but Slegers is confident that her team can get the job done.
“We know that Juventus are a good team, but we have a lot of quality in our squad,” she said. “We are confident that we can beat them if we play to our strengths.”
