Kentucky remains undefeated after demolishing South Carolina
The No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats women's basketball team continued their impressive start to the season on Thursday night, dismantling the South Carolina Gamecocks 86-65 at Rupp Arena. With the victory, Kentucky improved to 11-0 on the season and 1-0 in Southeastern Conference play.
Rhyne Howard leads the way for Kentucky
Rhyne Howard, the reigning SEC Player of the Year, led the way for the Wildcats with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. She was joined in double figures by Dre'una Edwards (17 points), Jazmine Massengill (14 points) and Blair Green (10 points). Kentucky shot 52.9% from the field and 38.9% from three-point range.
Kentucky's defense stifles South Carolina
Kentucky's defense was also impressive, holding South Carolina to just 38.5% shooting from the field and 20.0% from three-point range. The Gamecocks were led by Zia Cooke's 18 points, but no other South Carolina player scored more than 11 points.
Kentucky will face Louisville next
With the win, Kentucky extended its winning streak to 11 games. The Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday, when they travel to Louisville to face the No. 5 Cardinals. Louisville is 9-1 this season and is coming off a 75-64 win over North Carolina.
