LPSS is Closing Schools Due to Flash Flooding
What Happened?
Lafourche Parish schools will be closed on Friday, Aug. 26, due to flash flooding. The decision was made after heavy rains caused several roads to flood, making it unsafe for students and staff to travel. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Lafourche Parish until 7:45 p.m. Friday.
What to Do
Parents are advised to keep their children home from school on Friday. All after-school activities and events have also been canceled. The school district will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
Stay Safe
If you must travel during the storm, please be aware of your surroundings and avoid flooded areas. Do not drive through standing water, as it can be deeper than it appears. If you see a downed power line, stay away from it and call 911. For information on road closures, please visit the Lafourche Parish website or call the Sheriff's Office at 985-532-2800.
