Penn State starts season with dominant exhibition win
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Nittany Lions men’s basketball team began its 2022-23 season with an 83-57 exhibition victory over the Saint Francis Red Flash on Tuesday evening at the Bryce Jordan Center.
PSU was led by junior guard Jalen Pickett, who notched a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Senior forward Seth Lundy added 17 points for the Nittany Lions, while sophomore forward Kebba Njie chipped in with 12 points off the bench.
Saint Francis was led by senior guard Maxwell Land, who scored 19 points. Junior forward Landon McCoy added 14 points for the Red Flash.
The Nittany Lions took control of the game early, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes.
Penn State led 46-28 at halftime. PSU shot 53.8% from the field in the first half, including 8-of-15 from three-point range.
The Nittany Lions continued to extend their lead in the second half, eventually building a 30-point advantage.
Penn State shot 49.3% from the field for the game, including 10-of-25 from three-point range. The Nittany Lions also outrebounded Saint Francis 41-28.
The Red Flash shot 36.7% from the field, including 8-of-26 from three-point range.
Penn State will open its regular season on Monday, November 7, when they host the Winthrop Eagles at the Bryce Jordan Center.
