Surgeon Optimistic About Chet Holmgren's Injury
After Successful Surgery, Chet Holmgren Expected to Make Full Recovery
Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing successful surgery to repair a Lisfranc injury in his right foot, according to Dr. Martin O'Malley, the surgeon who performed the procedure.
The injury occurred during a pro-am game in Seattle on August 24. Holmgren was diagnosed with a Lisfranc injury, which is a sprain or tear of the ligaments that connect the metatarsal bones to the cuneiform bones in the foot.
Lisfranc injuries are relatively rare, but they can be serious and require surgery to repair. The surgery was performed on August 25 and was successful, according to Dr. O'Malley.
"The surgery went very well," Dr. O'Malley said. "We were able to repair the ligaments and stabilize the foot. Chet is expected to make a full recovery and be back on the court in time for the start of the regular season."
Holmgren is a 7-foot-1 center who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He is considered one of the most promising young players in the league and is expected to be a key part of the Thunder's future.
The Thunder released a statement after the surgery saying that they are "optimistic" about Holmgren's recovery. The team said that Holmgren will be re-evaluated in six weeks and that he is expected to miss the start of the regular season.
